A good pass here, committing the defender allowing for over loads to occur.

Good downhill running, hitting the gaps at pace, making sure to make the gain line every time.

A maul is formed when the ball carrier goes in to a breakdown but instead of being brought to ground is held up, each team then tires to drive the ball, if the team that brings the ball in is unable to either drive the maul forward or produce the ball then, play is stopped and it is a scrum down to the defensive team.

A Scrum is one of the set pieces that occurs in a match, each team has 8 men bound together, when they are set the sir (referee) will typically give a cadence of “crouch, touch, hold, engage” at this point the two teams come together and the scrumhalf feeds the ball in the tunnel (the space between the two opposing teams) Here the hookers from each side strike at the ball with their feet trying to hook the ball back to their team.

A line out is what occurs in rugby when the ball reaches touch (goes out of bounds). This can happen in a few different ways, carried out by a ball carrier, or kicked out, depending on the situation, one of the teams will be allowed the throw in. The team throwing in the ball will call a play, which includes the number of men involved in the line out as well as where the ball will be thrown to. The defensive team has to match the numbers of men in the line out, all other players must be 10 meters back from that spot, the ball is then thrown in to the jumpers who try and gain possession for their team.
